Learning Outcomes

1. Knowledge

Students during their attendance at the postgraduate program, study key-concepts, accredited methodological frameworks and applications of environmental policies. The in-depth analysis of the above-mentioned scientific field, not only in theoretical but also in practical level, is concerned as the core of the postgraduate program that differentiates the program from other of similar scope. Especially for Engineers of all sectors, the postgraduate program expands their horizons towards a more sustainable approach, providing high expertise knowledge in accordance with current professional standards. Students will be able to compete successfully in academia but also in industry, having gained valuable pieces of knowledge on environmental policy making after the completion of the Program.

2. Skills

After completing the post-graduate program, students will have obtained all the necessary skills so as to undertake special studies/projects in the field of environmental planning and policy making (either in the private or in the public sector). In particular, students will have learned how to make an environmental assessment study, a preliminary environmental evaluation (variety of projects and scales), an urban planning project, a regional and strategic planning project (category 27). Familiarizing with the special methodological framework of environmental assessment, graduates will be able to successfully complete inspections, estimations, certifications and consultations in terms of environmental planning and design. Graduate will be eligible associates for a variety of public and private organizations that occupy with environmental issues (EU councils and organizations, national councils, companies etc.)

3. Abilities

After completing the postgraduate program, graduates will be able to proceed with multi-factor analysis in the field of environmental planning. Real-life exercises as offered in the curriculum, provide the opportunity to deal with practical issues making the appropriate connections with the international experience in the field. The offered courses involve literature review and field work/original research, so as to help students benefit from the combination of theoretical framework and practical applications.  Especially, the postgraduate thesis, offers the opportunity to delve into contemporary crucial issues in the field of environmental planning, producing original work of high academic significance. Taking into account all the above-mentioned, graduates will have the ability to conduct independent research and also cooperate in interdisciplinary groups. All in all, graduates gain the ability to handle complex planning issues with the view to offer sustainable solutions in different projects and planning scales.
